Q: My admin login password has been changed and I'd like to update it to a more secure password.

The problem is, I've followed all the advice given. I'm running 10.6.8 os. I've tried changing the password from the install cd, it won't allow me to get past the third page without giving me the option of quitting. I've tried pressing C on the start up tone - the macbook doesn't startup - I'm let looking at the picture of an apple! I've tried forllowing the advice to press command and s on the startup tone - alot of the commands are unrecognised!

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, none of this appears to work.

The password has been changed without my consent or knowledge so I need to restart the computer from the OS install disc.

This doesn't work - on pressing C, the Mac freezes on the opening apple picture and refuses to move on.

The computer doesn't run the disc when is pushed in on the login page.

On pressing S and typing in the commands recommended on the support forum, most of the commands are unrecognised.

Just tried pressing the options button on startup and chose the disc startup - again, froze on the apple page.

Any help on where to turn next would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Try holding down the Option/Alt key at startup. ,That will bring up a boot selection screen. Give it about 30+ second to read from the DVD drive and disc and then click on the OS X installer. If it hangs again then your system might of had a Firmware password set on it and the only people that can remove that is Apple. So you would need to take the system mto an Apple store.
