Q: When is Apple going to include Bluetooth SPP to iOS?

It looks like this has been supported by Android devices for a while.  While I enjoy my iPhones and iPad, I might need to go to Android to be able to run/develop apps that communicate via SPP.

iPhone 4, iOS 6.1.5

No one here will have any idea as to Apple's future plans for Bluetooth support or any other future additions. You can comment to Apple on your need for such support via their feedback page, if you wish:

I personally will be surprised if Apple ever includes SPP, but you never know.

    Regards.

You are free to use the device that best suits your needs.

No one could know what APple plans for the future, unless they announce.

I believe iOS requires the use of the authentication coprocessor to establish a serial connection via an iOS accessory device like a connectBlue - this connects to the iOS device and allows for the hardware security authentication for serial port communication, and then offers an SPP connection pass-through.  The connectBlue device itself actually provides the direct BT SPP connection with your peripheral device.

I would be surprised if iOS ever supports the SPP profile natively due to iOS's security model.
