another how to transfer question

sorry if this has been asked before.. but I couldnt find the answer in a previous post. I want to transfer my iphoto to my new computer.. but mid way through using iphoto I switched to alias mode. If i just replace the iphoto library folder on the new computer, with the old one.. how do I get the aliased pictures to link up? Most of the aliased photos are in one folder on my old computer (not in the iphoto library folder) If I transfer those linked originals, where to I put them so that iphoto can find the link?

I think you can do it this way:

1 - move your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder on the new computer.
2 - move your source files for the alias part of the library to where you want to keep them on the new computer.
3 - launch iPhoto and get the transposed library up and running.
4 - open one roll of the aliased files and try to edit one.
5 - when you get the warning that the original can't be found select the option to find it and navigate to the new location, locate and select it.

NOTE: This may be enough to relink all of the source photos, expecially if they are all in the same relative position with respect to one another. Otherwise you may have to repeat that process for one photo in each roll. I've been able to do this with a test alias library going from boot ot external drive. You'll have a better chance if your new computer's HD is the same name as the previous one as well as the user folder, etc.

My question is regarding the protocol for getting old IPHOTO pics into a new machine.

Here is what I did.

My old computer is dead. I went to the Apple store and they were able to put my old Iphoto pics in a folder on my new MacBook. I can find them when using finder and they are located in my pictures on my new MAC.

What do I transfer to the new Iphoto to make sure that the folders or film roll names are intact from the old computer?
