unlock pages document on iPad

When I click on a Pages document I get a box with this message, "Document can't be imported. An error occurred while reading the document." I'm not importing a document, just clicking on one that is already there. I'd locked it (and have the password) for security reasons but now "I" can't get into it. Anyone? Please help.
