Q: need fix to allow 4k hdmi output on 2011 macbookpro 17"
2013 retina macbookpro seems to support 4K natively in mavericks
all other models seem to need 'driver hack' like switchresx to 'unlock' the supported 4K modes.
It appears that these driver 'hacks' only support nvidia graphics cards.
My 2011 macbookpro 17" appears to have AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1 GB - which should support some 4K resolutions, but which switchresx does not enable.
1) why is apple 'locking' 4K support on all but the latest retina mbp?
2) can Apple unlock the available 4K resolutions in mavericks for non Retina mbp? I don't like being forced into a hardware upgrade...my mbp has lots of horsepower and I like 17" model (unlike everyone else, apparently)
3) does anyone with Radeon have way to support 4K output? Ideally 24fps on seiki 50"
feel free to message me if you have a fix mkrjf0 gmail
