Question:

Question: When I start up iMac, Chrome automatically opens. How do I make it stop?

I have Safari, Chrome and Firefox as browsers. They are all in my dock. Safari is my default browser.

After I've shut down the computer, when I start up again, Chrome is the only browser that opens automatically at start up. I don't want any of them to do that. I've looked through preferences and can't find anything. I've looked in my Library:StartUpItems folder, but there seems to be nothing there.

How do I make Chrome stop starting?

This happens even when Chrome wasn't open when I shut down, so it's not about the "restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" checkbox. I rarely use Chrome and always quit it before shutting down.

Go to Apple Start -> System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Tap on Login items -> uncheck Chrome -> ensure you have authorised the chane by entering your password.

Viola !!!! we are away from the annoying issue of chrome.

Hope this helps.

Thank you! Before I shut down yesterday, I actually rightclicked the dock icon and set it to open at login. Then I deselected it again. I have never set anything to open at login there before, but today when I started up, Chrome did not open automatically (for the first time in many weeks). But just to be safe, I may lose the potential offender you have listed. Thanks so much for your help, it was driving me crazy!

I am having this problem, too. I have checked my startup items as you suggested, and also checked the options when I right-click on the dock icon. Nowhere is this set to open automatically. Any other suggestions? (I just realized this is under 10.5, I am on 10.6.8 but I am betting the issue is probably the same one.)

I hope this still runs in 10.6...

What all 3rd party extentions are you running?

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

[1] Right click the Google Chrome icon on your dock.

Select "Options",

Uncheck "Open at Login"

[2] Click on the "System Preferences" icon in your dock.

Select "Users & Groups"

Click the lock to make changes

Click on your user account

Select "Login Items"

Make sure Google Chrome is NOT checked

That'll do it.

Read Diana's followup, as it may apply to you. If that does not apply to you, go into Apple menu -> System preferences -> Accounts and select your startup account. Startup Items are listed there.

Thanks. It seems to have worked, although the site does have a disclaimer saying it may not be entirely accurate on Snow Leopard. Anything helpful here?

Hi, I'm having a similar problem with Safari running on Mavericks. tried all the basic ways of preventing this already.

This all started up after Ghosting my old 250 gig HD on to a 1TB Drive. All the page it always opens up on is rather random as I have never seen it before (luckily nothing dodgy looking) But its very annoying!

The Software i used to copy my HD was S u p e r D u p e r - 100% sure its to blame!

Any help would be most appreciated !

Thanks
