Q: pages and papers

I'm very dependent on Papers for organizing the scientific literature I do in my work. About 2 years ago I started using Pages instead of MS Word as I found the former more stable. Unfortunately, it seems that Apple is removing scripts support which Papers depends on for handling citations, which will force me back to using MS Word. Will there be any opportunity in the future for Papers to resume the ability to manage citation and bibliograpy handling with Pages as it did in the past, I should I just forget Pages and move back to MS Word?

Thanks!

    Asthorn,

That's a good question, but not one that any of us here on the Discussions site would have any idea about.

Your best course is to request the reinstatement via the Pages > Submit Feedback tool.

Apple has announced a future improvement of script support for Numbers, but nothing was said about Pages in this announcement.

Realistically if you need features and durability using a standard non-propriatary file format (or at least one everyone can open) Word .doc or Open doc are the best path to take.

I warned against doing significant work in .pages files for years and Apple has just done what I warned against in spades.

I have been accused of being pessimistic. Just remember the definition of a pessimist is an 'optimist with experience'.

If you want to see things as they really are, start by taking off the rosy colored glasses. I seriously doubt Apple will change course, it might throw you a bone or two but that is only from the ample stash of what they took away.

Peter, I've been a PC user for years and made the jump about 3 years ago. After using Word for what... 20 years - or whenever it first came out - I was reluctant to change, but it worked so poorly on OS X that I started avoiding it. This is making me long for the days of Word Perfect again.

Sadly none of this is going to change anything.

I am actually pulling out the PC and looking at Linux again.

You are only a recent convert to Apple, people who I describe as "fresh meat". Apple has done this to its users so often that many just accept it as a fact of life and enter denial, like the Eloi in the Time Machine by H.G. Wells.

I have always loved the Mac but never trusted Apple. Apple regularly reminds me why.
