hp designjet 500 - Driver Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks

The new driver for DesignJet 500 on Mac OS 10.9 does not work properly when printing rotated 90 * (Landscape) custom size! As with OS 10.8 worked great.

It 'a problem of edge, turning the page as shown in the driver sends the wrong instructions to the printer, the result are prints of drawings with wrong margins and out of scale. Please segnalere the problem, because the printer is unusable!

This says a current driver is available for automatic download/install:

The new paradigm for os x drivers is - manufacturers give the current driver to Apple who keep it on their server, for auto install.

You can force os x to find the latest drivers by resetting the printing system, or downloading the whole hp driver set from apple.

(Resetting printing system restarts the os x print system - CUPS - which then recreates an index of already installed and available drivers.)

On November 6, they released a new driver for 10.9

I installed it on a new machine with 10.9 native and the driver still does not work!

I'm surprised that HP is a great company, the HP Designjet 500 is a plotter thousands of €, I like all owners of this printer, we make use of a highly professional, but I do not see a lot of professionalism in HP, he hoped that Apple pèrovveda to fix this problem!

Last week I thought that the problems of Designjet500ps with Mac os x "Maverics", were solved with the new

Mac HP Designjet Raster Driver (27.0 - 10 Feb 2014). But nothing, really nothing, changed! Moreovere HP Printer Setup Assistant doesn't work because of a certificate lack of the application (as before)!

Today, I was reached telephonically by italian HP customer service for administrative questions (only about customer data!) but I didn't let this opportunity slip through my fingers and presented theese well known problems to the kind operator that in few minites called me again inviting to talk with tecnical assistance and giving me the phone number. Well, also the new tecnical operator (very kind!) wasn't wise to the problem and told me that becuase of the expired warranty of the plotter she would have provided me a quotation for on-site assistance. After a big laugh, I explained that it was not only my problem and I would have not paid a cent for a driver problem! Anyway she promised that would collect informations at 3rd level(!?) by Indian software developpers!

After half an hour she called me again, ensuring me that Apple is well aware of the problem and recognising its responabilities, is trying to find out the solutions. She also precised me that if you use standard paper formats (provided by Hp) the scale/cut print problem should not present.

Now that the quotation for on-site assistance has arrived in vain (€370+vat!!!) we have only to wait for Apple developpers with great patience!! Good thing that in my office I kept an iMac with Snow Leopard!

Cheers! Ric

I have been experiencing the exact same problem with my HP LaserJet 6MP (which otherwise performs as well as always): Landscape orientation does NOT work with custom paper sizes in Mavericks. I checked the HP website in the hope of finding an updated driver, only to discover that the last one released was in 2009! So much for staying on top of issues and keeping up with the needs of the user base. Such willful ignorance of customer support is a disgrace.

I appreciate the information you provided, Greg, but I question how accurate Apple's list of printer drivers is, given, as but one example, the fact that it states that the latest driver for the HP LaserJet 6MP is 19.8, while the latest driver for that printer that can be downloaded from Apple's Software Update, and which I have installed for my own 6MP, is 9.4. Given the gap between versions 9.4 and 19.8, I rather doubt that there have been 10 version releases since the last update on August 3. HP and Apple need to get on the same page with regard to this situation.

I just installed a fake LJ 6MP (you can do this using IP/LPD, and bypass the printer setup step). The driver version listed is 19.8.

Is it possible you have an older version installed, that needs to be deleted from /Library/Printers? Delete the HP folder there, after using Finder Go menu > go to folder.

BTW - we are all users just like you. Apple employees rarely participate here. If you need to notify them, use Apple.com/feedback.

Thanks for the further explanation, Greg. After reading your last message, I opened the Printers & Scanners panel in System Preferences, and checking the Settings for the 6MP, saw that I indeed have version 19.8 already installed. The version 9.4 to which I had previously referred is what is shown when choosing the 6MP icon in Home>Library>Printers in the Finder. I'm not sure why there is a discrepancy between the two, but the bottom line is that I do have the latest driver for the 6MP -- 19.8 -- installed. Regrettably, it does nothing to correct the problem noted by myself and others earlier in this discussion — to wit, the fact that Landscape orientation does NOT work with custom paper sizes in Mavericks.
