I have Canon Pixma MP560 printer that I would like to connect to my I Mac wirelessly. I do not have the set up CD_ROM as the printer was used by another person previously. Will this printer be compatible and can I download the software needed from inter

I have a Canon Pixma MP560 that I would like to link up with my I Mac (snow leopard 10.6.8) wirelessly. The printer was owned by another person previously and I do not have the set up CD-ROM. Will this printer be compatible and can I download the required software from the internet?

Why don't you connect it up and try it out? The drivers may well be included in 10.6. Try it and see. If it does not work you are not going to break anything.

The driver is provided in Snow Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3669

It has been recently updated, so run Software Update to get the latest version. Just connect the printer and the print queue should be set up. For more information:

Thank you very much. I will try your suggestion once I have an ink refill (ordered today) as the printer LCD will not respond when an ink cartrigde is empty.

May I ask where I find the Software Update - I keep my software updated regularly - should that cover it?.How do I connect the printer? - is that via the Canon manual for wireless connection?

SoftWare Update is the second item in the Apple Menu at the extreme left of the menu bar, or can be accessed from System Preferences. You should probably connect the printer via USB initially - I'm not sure whether Software Update will recognize it if connected wirelessly, though it well may.

I assume that if all software is up to date(by the software update screening) that it will include that for the Pixma drivers- is that correct?

Should be. Go to Applications>'Canon Utilities'>'Print queue - Utilities'

In the pane which opens click 'Printer Setup' in the toolbar. The 'General' pane will tell you what the driver is - it should be 10.72.1.0

I went to Applications but "Canon Utilities" was not there. I saw 10.72.1.0 on Macupdate. I will screen to check that I have all software updates. Do you know wher I should find "Canon Utilities"?

I have it but I don't remember from where - perhaps it was from the an install disk with the printer, so things may be different for you.

I found two more versions in /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter/Utilities, the later one being 10.72.3.

Thank you very much to all those who contributed to this discussion. I contacted Canon Support by email and phone. They were extremely quick to reply, efficient, friendly, courteous and helpful. With their assistance I downloaded the Canon drivers as they directed ( they explained that the OSX 10.6 inculded drivers would not be suitable) and the Pixma MP560 is now wirelessly functioning.
