Macbook pro 'wet the bed'...what the?

I picked up my macbook pro this evening, and there was a puddle underneath it. It left a light yellow line of residue on the desk where the back vent is, the back of the vent has the same light residue, and there's a small spot of residue in the center of the back. I have a picture or two, but can't find the flash memory reader, so no "evidence" just yet.

I swear on a stack of BCS floppies that I'm not making this up, and I NEVER spilled anything onto it, around it, near it, blah blah. There are no water marks on the ceiling. Hasn't been anything liquid on my desk in weeks. I've thought it over for a good hour and I have no idea where the water came from.

This liquid had no discernable smell, although when I smelled the back of the macbook, it had a smell similar to...well...best I can think of is "a clothing iron", or maybe car coolant (which has a slightly sweet smell.) I've (gently, while off) shook it, turned it all sorts of directions, etc. Not a drop more has come out.

Brett,

Shut down your MBP, then turn it over and lay it gently on something to protect the display (close the display first, of course). Remove the battery, then use a #0 Phillips screwdriver to remove the RAM cover. Inside you will find a dial; turn this from the "Cottons and Linens" setting, down one notch to "Permanent Press." Replace the RAM cover, then the battery. You may now reboot your MBP.

Seriously, you probably had the MBP sitting on (or in) some liquid prior to placing it on your desk. Perhaps you had it sitting on a kitchen counter, perhaps somewhere else that was wet or damp. Any discoloration was probably picked up, by whatever liquid was present, from the finish on the desk.

This is the most likely scenario. I would, however, suggest that you double-check that this wasn't a battery leak. Shut the MBP down and remove the battery, then check the battery for any sign of leakage.

My guess is that one of the assembly guys was
drinking and spilled it,thats my theory.

That would be great if the computers weren't made almost entirely by machine and no foods or beverages of any kind were allowed in the assembly line room. Not to mention the fact that it would have already dried / spilled out by now. Its a good thing your theory is just that, YOUR theory, because its wrong.

Liquid was probably there from before. Any liquid that would ever leak from a computer (can't really think of any) would certainly have a distinct smell and feel.
