Hi, to answer your question, it probably wouldnt matter now because most store kept macbooks should be in week 25 now or later, but to make sure you get the latest build (26/27) you should order it online, because some stores keep backstock. I ordered mines 2 weeks ago and got a week 26 and my friend bought his in a store and got a week 25. Hope this helps.

I purchased both of my Macs on line since I wanted certain specs that were not available in my local Apple store (glossy screen on the MBP for example, etc.) I have had very positive experiences with them. I even had to do a return on my first MPB and it went smoothly. They sent me a prepaid shipping label, Fedex came to my house, and I had new Mac 6 days later.

I had this same dilema: online or in store. I finally decided to go to the store so I could walk out of the store with a Macbook in hand and not have to worry about waiting for delivery and worrying about whether I would be here when it was delivered. Plus I figured it would be easier to return it to the store if there were problems instead of again having to mail it back. It has been 3 weeks and no problems though. At the store my was week 25.

I strongly suggest buying it at an Apple Store. I originally bought a week 21 on June 4. It suffered from the random shutoff issue. I was given a brand new week 24 machine on July 7. It works flawlessly. You do the math. Several who bought in an Apple Store and had problems outside the 14-day window received a brand new machine while those who bought online or from resellers are waiting for lengthy repairs and/or a frustrating experience with machines being sent back unrepaired, not to mention they will have refurbs when said and done.

I bought my Week 19 MacBook Pro from Amazon.com June 12. Not sure what "build" was the latest that date.

I've had no problems with the MBP, only with a "runaway process" that was maxing out one of the processor cores, causing a lot of heat. Before I solved that, I was ready to send the MBP back to Amazon.com. Their returns page makes it very easy for either a refund or replacement.

Also, the $150 rebate sweetened the deal.

Wherever you get your MacBook, good luck.
