how do I un-pause launchpad?

I had the same issue recently and did the following to solve it:

1) open App Store app

2) click on 'Store' / 'Check for unfinished downloads'

3) enter credentials when requested from App Store

4) done

When you see "Paused", it means that there's a download from the Mac App Store that is paused. Open Launchpad and press the application icon with a bar, so the application download will continue

Tip does not work.

Clicking on icon in launch pad does not change its status.

No paused app store updates (within app store).

It is a ghost icon.

There has to be a file that should be editable to remove the ghost icon or force reset to do the update.

This is what finally worked for me. I had Yosemite installed that was triggered by another application download and I am already on Sierra, so I stopped it and it went into "PAUSE". I tried deleting it from Launchpad and that didn't work. Kept looking online for solutions when I found your easy steps. Thanks!

I found an Icon that was labeled Download but it did not have a bar. I clicked on the Icon and it started re-downloading.
