Why is mail sending occasional emails directly to trash?

This problem has been going on for a few months. There are no rules and there is no regularity with when this happens, But every day I must search my trash folder for all of my accounts to read mail that has cycled there unread. A few times this has occured with important mail which I almost missed! I have tried rebuilding mailboxes and removed almost all of my "rules" but it happens with a few emails every day.

I have somewhat similar problem. Each day a few of the emails I've read, show up in the trash as unread. A copy of the read email still remains in the Inbox. But I have to go into the Trash folder and view the email again to get rid of the unread indicator beside the Trash folder. It'e been happening for about a week now and only to a few emails a day, not all of them.
