Q: "The ipod software update server could not be contacted"

Everytime I try and uptade my ipod I get a message that says "The ipod software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later" I have tried over and over but I am still not getting any luck, any help would be greatly appreciated.
