Cinema Display On/Off switch problem

Hi, same problem with my new 30" ACD... I seems to happen when shutting down and/or rebooting, or simply after a few hours. When I disconnect (and reconnect) the power cable, the touch buttons are enabled again. I just read that on mac os you have a system tool to disable these buttons, maybe there's a connection? I'd really appreciate if someone from apple would comment on this thread!

I installed WinACD (available on sourceforge.net), which replaces the default monitor driver. In the monitor properties dialog, there is an options button (see message above) with some settings regarding the buttons. Works nice, but I haven't done any hardcore testing.

We're having the same issue with a 30" HD. It seems that the monitor will turn off fine when pressing the side power switch during the first 2 or so hours it is turned on during the day, but after that, it will not turn off using the power switch. This has become a rather annoying problem, as I turn off my monitor every night before going home (the monitor is at another office). Any ideas? This is running on a PC running WinXP. The video card is an NVidia clone GeForce 7600GT. Any help would be very helpful... we're about to call Apple support over this. Oh, and the display was purchased less than 3 weeks ago.

As usual this evening, the 30" Cinema controls were dead, so I followed bitstudio's advice and installed WinACD; Instant success! The controls were enabled again, no reboot necessary.

Very annoying that it had to come to this... Disable the powerbutton? What were Apple thinking? (rhetorical question -- they weren't thinking! 😟 ) I often leave my PC on over-night, but do not need to keep the display powered while I'm sleeping. Duh.

I have had the same problems, I have a Dell computer with a PNY Nvidia 7300GT video CCA. Sometimes when the computer shuts off the 30" Monitor stays on, I can see it glowing in the dark. Sometimes when the computer screen saver starts the monitor will over heat and I get all sorts of lines running from top to bottom, when the monitor cools down it is fine again. I exchanged the monitor today, but felt the problem was deeper then the monitor. I was advised to download the WinACD software driver from SourceForge.net.

This would be ok but is it beta software? The computer is used for business and I'm not here to monitor it all the time. Has anyone had adverse problems with WinACD?

Dell Windows XP Pro PNY Nvidia 7300GT

I’ve recently brought a 20” cinema display.
It’s fantastic but the On/Off button on the lower
right side only seems to work intermittently.
Sometimes the only way to turn the screen off is to
switch off at the socket. Sometime the side switch
won’t turn it on and I have to power it down from the
socket and leave it for a few minutes before the side
switch will work. Is this a common problem? Can it be
solved? Or have I got a monitor with a a hardware
problem?

I have a similar problem in that when I turn on my computer, the Apple 30" monitor does not come on, though the adjacent CRT (second monitor) does come on. To get the Apple 30" monitor to come on, I need to turn off the computer and restart it. Any suggestions?

I have 2 23" displays and they occasionally give me the same problems and then fix themselves mysteriously. Right now one is attached to my 15" Powerbook and it is as dead as a doormouse. Have tried everything. Last time this happened I was about to take it in for service and the switch started working again. This is very annoying.

Also, sometimes I can get two to work on my G4 and sometimes only one will work. Also, annoying.

I can't find the "button" option that is mentioned as being in the Monitor Preferences.

Apple must have some sort of explanation for this. So far I can't find anything in support or on the forum. Any help would be appreciated.

I have two 20" screens and I have this very problem with one of them. I haven't found anything yet as far as a reason or fix. I will post here if I do!

I have the same problem on a 23-inch screen. In addition, When I unplug the screen it reboot my computer...

Make sure the display's USB cable is plugged into the computer, then check the button options in "Displays" System Preference.
