I need to load iBooks on my iPad 1 so I can save a .pdf to the device.

In order to load the current version of iBooks you need IOS7

IOS7 does not work on iPad 1 devices.

What do I do?

Hey mvanmeter59,

Great question. Apple has recently introduced the ability to download previous versions of applications, if the developer supports it. In this case, we do offer a previous version of iBooks for your device. Simply download iBooks from the App Store by visiting this link (US App Store), and upon installation you’ll receive a prompt to download the previous version that is compatible with your device.

Fore more information, see this article:

Thanks,

Hi Matt,

I'm facing the same issue described by mvanmeter59 but I'm using Apple store Brazil. We have multiple iPad1 in our company and I need to deploy iBooks in all of them. Using Brazil Apple store I was not able to donwload the previous version of iBook as you have described.

When I try do download iBooks on Brazil app store the message I have is: "Este app requer iOS7,0 ou superior. Você precisa atualizar para iOS 7.0 para baixar e usar este app." traslating to english it would be: "This app requires iOS7.0 or superior. You must download iOS7.0 do download and use this app". When I tap "OK" in this message box the download process stops and I'm never prompted about downloading the previous version that is compatible with my device.

Any tip about how Brazilians iPad1 users should proceed to have iBooks?

Many thanks in advance,

Guilherme Rolim

Hi everybody I would like to offer you my solution to this issue though I must tell you it is a poor one but effective.

As I faced the same problem as you guys when I upgrade to Maverick and could not load books in Ipad 1 I did the following:

1st. Downgrade to Itunes 10.7, there are some instructions on how to do it on the web also videos in youtube worth to check.

2nd. I had to formatIpad 1 so make a back up previously.

3rd. Once the Itunes 10.7 is installed and your ipad 1 is "brandnew", you can use Calibre for uploading your books to Itunes and also to transfer these books to Ipad 1, is in that moment when you will encounter our wellloved error 42408. in order to solve it please go to step 4th.

4th. Seems to be that there is a solution a bit more complex that te one I am going to offer you also more useful so look for it and take your time, I didn´t do it cuz yesterday I spent 15 hours dealing with Itunes and I was feed up, so IO took the short path. I resumed that the quickest solution was to upgrade again to Itunes 11 which doesn´t solve the problem at all but it is also true that Itunes 11 I am able to sincronyze Ibooks to ipad 1 (having previously added 1400 books form Itunes 10.7) so now I can read again in Ipad 1

I Know that it is a very crappy solution, but at least is not as crappy as the one offered by apple and all its enginners.......Hope t is a momentary solution to all of you and that in the incoming future somebody in apple decide to stop punishing our ***** for the fact of not having its latest hardware.

Saludos a todos!

Matt,

Your solution doesn't work. I've got an even better one for you. My kids each have 1st Gen iPads iOS 5.1.1 (9B206). One a 16GB and the other a 32GB. The 32 GB has the older version of iBooks and the 16GB is giving me the same issues as everyone else here.

Suggestions??? I must say what a load of bull for Apple to cause this.

Rosie63,

If you are trying to download iBooks for original iPad, you need to download the app to iTunes on your computer. Once it has downloaded to your computer, open the iPad, go to the Purchased section in the App Store, tap on the cloud and you will be prompted to download a compatible version.
