VNC - keyboard layout changes to qwerty instead of azerty

Hello,

In our office we have an intel mac mini, setup with an english version of 10.4, set to keyboard layout Azerty (belgian layout).

When we connect from another computer (mac and pc) with a vnc client, then the keyboard layout changes to qwerty. Not fysically I mean, but typing through the vnc windows requires us to type in qwerty layout mode.

Is this a common issue, and how can I solve it? There isn't much on the net about these kinds of issues, and posting it on a dutch forum didn't solve my problem either.

Thank you in advance.

Dag, Klaus-
Which VNC client software are you running on the connectING machine?
From what I've just read, the AppleRemoteDesktop that's running on the mac, doesn't support the AZERTY.
You will need to install a third-party (most likely free) VNC server package on your mac that's 'hosting' the VNC.

I use http://www.redstonesoftware.com/vnc.html
"OSXvnc" running on my mini and connect to it using "RealVNC" from my Win machine.
Somewhere in the configuration there will be settings to "customize" your keyboard (local, remote, disable local, set keybd prefs....something).

Hope this helps...let us know?

Hello,

Thank you for your response. I already tried OSXvnc as a server, and I connect through the RealVNC viewer, so our setup is identical.

Too bad, cause OSXvnc doesn't handle different layouts like it's supposed to do, this is from the faq

----------------
Q: I am using an International keyboard (or keyboard layout) and the characters don't come up appropriately.

A: Currently OSXvnc doesn't handle this as well as we would like. Part of the problem is that if both the remote and local users are using an international keyboard layout the keystrokes actually get double-corrected, thus producing the standard US keys. Try setting one of the keyboards back to US; this works a bit better.
