If it won't run Mavericks it won't run Mountain Lion either, the requirements are the same.
Which model Mac do you have
I realize I can, but Mountain Lion no longer appears in the app store to purchase - only Mavericks. So that doesn't help.
What exactly are you trying to do, upgrade to mavericks! or mountain lion?
I have a Core 2 Duo macbook pro. Late 2006. According to the specs, it will run mountain lion, but not mavericks. While I understand it is theoretically possbile to upgrade directly from Snow Leopard, there seems to be no way to actually do it now that mavericks has been released.

I've not verified that this is so today.
Phil
My machine will not upgrade to Mavericks, so I am trying to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Now that Mavericks has been released, it seems impossible to get mountain lion!
Thanks for the assistance.
Where did you see that, the requirements for ML and Mavericks are exactly the same, if you can run one you can run both.
But your Mac is not capable of running either of them, you need a mid 2007 model.
Sorry, I guess I was looking at lion, not mountain lion. Lion seems to support this processor. I could be wrong, but thanks for the information.
I believe that Snow Leopard (10.6.8) is the last OSX that you can run on a 2006 Macbook Pro, if you refer to that link I posted.

Phil,
I saw that too, but it's from October. Now that Mavericks is a free upgrade, I thought Lion would be too, but it also no longer seems possible to purchase online or download from the app store.
I think that Lion will work on your Mac.
Csound1,
I think Lion will work too, but it seems to be impossible to get now!
Thanks!
Sorry, I believe you are correct

I think you can still contact Apple and purchase it (it is not free as far as I know)
