Q: how do you delete tv shows you don't want if no x appears at edit?

If they are downloaded onto your iPad (e.g. they aren't only in the cloud and have a cloud symbol on them) then on the TV Programme selection screen you should have an Edit button at the top right of the screen. If they are part of a series and you only want to delete particular episodes the select the series and on the episode selection screen swipe/drag from right to left over the episode and it should get a Delete button appear on it.

Or you can try deleting them via Settings > General > Usage > Videos (under 'Storage') - again swipe/drag from right to left (either for the whole series or select the series and then on an episode).

TV programmes can't be redownloaded in all countries, and even where they can be there is no guarantee that they will remain in the store for future redownloading - so if you haven't already got a copy of them on your computer's iTunes library then you may want to copy them over via File > Device > Transfer Purchases before deleting them.
