I am still running snow leopard on a late 2006 macbook pro. Upgrade to mountain lion?

My macbook pro with:

15.4-inch: 2.16GHz(MA609LL)	15.4-inch: 2.33GHz(MA610LL)	17-inch: 2.33GHz(MA611LL/A)
Display	15.4-inch (diagonal), 1440 x 900 resolution, TFT widescreen	17-inch (diagonal), 1680 x 1050 resolution, TFT widescreen
Processor	2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo	2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo	2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory	1GB (single SO-DIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300)	2GB (two SO-DIMMs) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300)

I use it for Photoshop and Lightroom and I have upgraded to Lightroom 5 to find I need 10.7 or later.

I have not upgraded inthe past because snow leopard has worked well and the release after that got bad revues.. I hear the same about mavericks so wonder about upgrading to Mountain Lion.

Your experiences please..

Somewhere I read there should be at least 4gb RAM.

Does anyone know whether this machine would support that? I have 3gb at the mo so suppose that would be poss.

SO in theory it will work - as it has the right spec - except of course the model of the mac.

Mmmm should I risk it?

Next thought - WHERE do I find a download?

After the release of Mavericks you cannot download Mt. Lion any more directly. YOu will have to contact n AppleStore for an installer - check put this thread: I have a macbook pro that won't run Mavericks. How can I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion?

You can't upgrade to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard if the requirements are met from here > mountain lion - Apple Store (U.S.)

Since your computer doesn't meet the Technical Specifications leonie posted earlier, Mountain Lion shouldn't work.

Try Lion.

Really don't understand why apple makes it so difficult to upgrade perfectly decent machines.

I didn't like Lion at all. Tried it for a week and went back to Snow Leopard.

I think the reason older machines can't be upgraded is because the internal hardware of older computers can't handle the demands of the newer software.
