Touch ID, fingerprints, oleophobic coating
I too have troubles using Touch ID on my iPhone 5s. I've tried re-enrolling fingerprints and that works for a few days, but inevitably, I continue to have trouble.
Here's what I've noticed: when tilting the iPhone and looking directly at the glass Touch ID sensor, especially with light at just the right angle, I can usually see a near perfect fingerprint left on the glass. I've figured out that this "left over" print is causing interference with reading my fingerprint.
Oleophobic coating?
I know the glass display on the iPhone is treated with an oleophobic coating to prevent fingerprints -- and it works really well. I can't leave a fingerprint even when I try! However, it appears that the glass Touch ID sensor *does not* have that coating because even with the slightest touch, I can leave a fingerprint on the home button.
iPhone 5s owners: does your Touch ID have a visible fingerprint left on the home button? Unfortunately, I've needed to get in the habit of wiping the home button just before I use it to unlock the phone. It isn't really any easier than swiping right and just entering my PIN.
Any thoughts?
