The most recent iWork version for iOS 7 requires the most recent iWork for OS X version, so you have to purchase iWork applications in the Mac App Store. As you are already using Mavericks, you shouldn't have any issue.

Your old iWork version will be kept in case you want to use it. A lot of users have complained about the lack of features of the new iWork for Mac version, and Apple released an iWork for Mac update yesterday with some features and bug fixes. Will I be able to transfer my info on the old iWorks '08 to the newOS X version?  They seem incompatible.

iWork '08 should work under OS X Mavericks, and iWork '08 documents can be opened with the newest iWork version, so you won't lose anything. Just make a backup of your files

The new iWork apps cannot open iWork '08 or earlier files. They can only open iWork '09 or newer files.

    For the OP:

I suggest that you buy a retail copy of iWork '09 from a third party such as Amazon or eBay then you can update to the new iWork apps in the Mac App Store for free. You might check this link for the iWork '09 trial. I have no idea if it is still available. Or contact Apple. They made this mess, let them fix it.

Thanks.  This is what I thought, but was hoping it wasn't.

    Karen,

With every new OS you "purchase" you get some AppleCare support. Why not give them a call and see what they can do for you? It might save you the purchase price of iWork '09.

Talked to Apple.  In order to get iWorks '09 to dowload to the iMac.I have to go back to Mountain Lion, deleting Mavericks.  I just may reenter my info to the new Numbers on iPad.  Jeez, nothing is easy!  Advised to reset Safari to make Mavericks run faster.  Thank you, one and all, for your help.
