Q: Drag and drop stops working in maverick

Hello,

running Maverick and running into this issue twice already.

I can't drag files in finder. I can select them, I can multiple select them by dragging, but clicking on them and draging them does not work at all until I reboot.

Anyone know of this issue?

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

    Hey cromestant,

I would run through the troubleshooting steps in the following article, specifically the section titled "If the issue occurs in various applications, or in Mac OS X" here:

    thank you for your reply.

I looked at this and it did not seem to be a proper fit to diagnose, as I told you this happens sporatically and a reboot fixes it, so it is most likely a software issue, some driver or plugin that gets unloaded.

will look at it closely when it happens again

I have the same issue, and have tried this "change Arrange options" fix suggested elsewhere, but doesn't work for this issue. So far, the only way to restore dragging is by restarting.

I've reproduced this so far three times, nothing to help diagnose.

Hello and Happy new year to all of you !

I have the same problem : I use to drag and drop mails from Mail.app to the files of my customers.

With Mavericks, sporadicaly, it simply doesn't work. The column where is the receipt file does not come with the blue edge, and leaving the mail on the file does not come to copy it in the file.

I have an imap account, on a private server, and, very strange, the same mails can't be drag and drop with my other computer.

How to come through please. This is very annoying as I'm using this function 50 times a day at least !

    Thank you !

    Hello!

I just wanted you to know that I'm having the same problem. I just bought a Macbook Pro (maverick os) last week and today the drag and drop function stopped working. VERY frustrating since I use that function no less than 50 times a day. This is my first mac, so I was worried the solution was obvious and I just wasn't seeing it; then I found this thread. Glad to know I'm not crazy!

The restart solution does work, but I hate the idea of constantly restarting the computer. I will let you know if I find another solution.

Missing my pc a little now...

    Hi Clarmist,

You can reboot the finder using <cmd+alt+esc>, and restart the "finder".

This is more simple than restart the computer...

But still, it doen't work correctly and I would be glad if Apple let us know if they care or not.

    Regards

PS : funny your pseudo : I'm working in oilmist serparation. I could have call my entity "cl(e)armist". Well, for the french people i'm working with, it would not have so much sense by the way

It might help if we knew more about the issue. Can you guys see if it's happening from a newly created user? Also try loading with safe mode.

I've made both installation when coming on Mavericks :

    - on my iMac, i just updated to Mavericks

    - on my MacBook Pro, I've made a clean install.

    I have trouble on both.

Working in safe mode is complicated.

If I've time I'll try. Did anyone tried ?

Working in safe mode is not really an option , this happens in an unpredictable manner, no actual way to reproduce it, at some point you just find yourself without dragging possibilities.
