My Canon Pixma MX870
My Pixma MX870 stopped printing an entire section of text and or print since installing my Mavericks. I have installed new drivers and the entire section of printed page is blank where the black should be.

Try a reset > OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
And try removing all print jobs from System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print > Open Pring Queue ...
Then restart your Mac. Turn the printer off for a minute then turn it back on.
Try printing.
The PG black ink is used for text printing. The print head could be clogged so open Printers & Scanners, select the MX and then click on Options & Supplies then Utilities then Open Printer Utility. With the Canon IJ Printer Utility open you have the option to print a nozzle test pattern. This prints a test page using all colours individually. I suspect that the PG Blk sample will not print correctly or at all. If this is the case, then via the same utility you can perform a deep head clean. Then do the nozzle test print again. Repeat the cleaning a few times till you get the PG Blk working. If it still fails to print after several cleans then the print head needs replacing.
Thanks for the feedback, but I did try all those things. Today, I printed two web pages and those both printed. When I tried to print a document in my folder, nothing printed. I pulled out the print head, cleaned the entired head, after removing all the ink cartridges. There was a lot of black ink on the head. I tried again and still would not print. I now suspect it has something more to do with my operating system v. my printer and/or Canon software. Any other suggestioons would be appreciated. Thanks
Well this explains why you are not getting any text. The PG black portion of the print head is not ejecting the ink onto the paper. This also explains why you saw lots of black ink on the head. You shouldn't see much on the head as it should be on the paper.
And note that the web pages that printed previously would have used the other black, as web pages are often treated as images rather than text.

As I mentioned above, if deep cleaning does not get the PG Bk working then the print head will need replacing. But they are not cheap - approx US $100 - so it may be more cost effective to get a new printer than repair it.
Does the nozzle test show the PG Black?
Aactually it does not show any PG black nozzle pattern. Only the straight blocks of the colors and small black.
AAny suggestion what to do? Should I try and replace the print head?
