Q: Error during firmware update

Read this and you'll get your answer I hope!  Good Day...

Firmware update 7.7.2 is for AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule base stations with 802.11ac.

This update:

• Addresses an issue that prevents a USB hard drive connected to an AirPort Extreme from appearing as an available disk in Time Machine
• Resolves an issue that may intermittently cause a loss in WAN connectivity
• Resolves an issue that may result in a network loop

Try performing a "factory default" reset on the AirPort Express, and then, try updating the firmware again.

Isn't what I posted clear that this firmware is for only the devices with 802.11ac?

Yes it is clear.

I was responding to the OP and he mentioned that he was having difficulty with updating firmware on his AirPort Express. As far as I know an 802.11ac version of the Express has not been (or will be) released yet.

Other than a guess or hunch, how is it that you know that Jim in CT has an 802.11ac version of the AirPort Extreme?

Or, that he was trying to use 7.7.2 on his AirPort Express? 

The Express may well have been looking for the 7.6.4 update.

Might be wise for us to wait to hear from Jim in CT and gather some more facts before we jump to conclusions.

When I clicked on the device within Airport Utility, it said Update available.

If the Express was using 7.6.3 before, the update that was shown as available would have been 7.6.4. Is that correct?

For the sake of curiosity, was the AirPort Extreme also updating to 7.6.4....or...7.7.2?

You were right Bob and Tesserax...I jumped the gun thinking Jim had newest device!  (That is why am a Level 1...LOL)
