Q: Retouch Clone Not Fully Opaquing

This is a feature I've used literally hundreds of times, so I know how it should work.

In the past few weeks, when I try to Retouch > Clone, some ghost lines still remain in the area that I've retouched; in the past they would be 100% erased/overwritten with the cloned source.  (Stray hairs in portraits, for instance.)  Opacity is set to 100%.

This still works 100% in some instances, but for dark lines with light backgrounds, this feature now only partially works, leaving a ghost line/trace.

I've tried exiting, logging out/in, rebooting.

Thoughts?  Any help appreciated.

The next step with UI issues, once you've eliminated user error (which you seem to have covered), is to delete your Aperture preferences.  Details are on the Apple Aperture trouble-shooting page.

I can't think of anything else.  I thought maybe you had "Detect Edges" selected, but it isn't available for "Clone".  You might load a JPG of text and see what happens when you clone over letterforms -- just to see if you tell more of what is being done at the pixel level (letterforms being thin and fairly sharply delineated dark-on-light objects).
