(Hold the "Option" key and click "Go" from the Finder menu to access the [user] Library)
Trash the com.apple.appstore.plist file
Empty the trash.
You may have to reboot.
your suggestion trashing the "com.apple.appstore.plist" did NOT work
I also trashed the "com.apple.storeagent.plist"
and rebooted still the same annoying download history
any other suggestions to clear the app store download history
I don't know how to delete the history, but each entry will self-delete after 30 days (in case you didn't already know that - but you probably did 🙂).
why they keep adding useless features to annoy useres

/Users/.../Library/Application Support/App Store/updatejournal.plist
the ... is mean your username/profile
go to home at finder and enter Library will go that place
