TASCAM FW-1082 firewire help

A brand new TASCAM FW-1082 (with appropriate drivers loaded on the G5) can't be recognized by the computer. No firewire connection can be made. I've tried every combination of recent drivers- no luck. It WILL however work with a Mac-tel iMac. Help...

Read this for setting it up properly:

And it might help to know that the mixer needs its own firewire bus. You cannot use it if you are also using firewire drives running off the computer...as all macs have only one firewire bus. That one hit me pretty hard.

But...I have been able to get it to work on the one bus by turning it on last. I mean turning on the drives, turning on the computer, launching FCP, THEN turning on the mixer. But that only works sometimes. You can also try to turn it on before you launch FCP and see if the firewire light comes on...again, after you power on the drives.

I also, at times, have to start with it in MONO mode, then switch over to computer. Funky...and I am still working it out.

Thanks for your help. I tried all those things...no luck. I even disabled and unplugged ALL my fw sources and rebooted and then turned on the mixer. No fw light. I then went into the apple profiler and under the hardware>firewire attribute saw the usual "FireWire Bus: Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec" and then turned on the mixer. That message disappeared and it the profiler was searching for something...eventually it gave up and the default "...800mbs.." message came on again. very frustrating indeed. If anyone has any ideas on this please reply. Thanks
