Q: Cannot see how to stream music from my itunes library on my imac to my ipad ?

Ok so I have turned on homesharing on both my Imac late early 2011 running Mavericks and my ipad 2.

I simply want to stream my itunes libabry stored locally on my imac to my ipad so i can stream it upstairs to a bluetooth unit.

This page does not seem to apply to ios 7 as far as I can see ?

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4557

Under Playing Home Sharing content on your iOS device

I cannot see how to follow those instructions.

As I understand it, in older ios you could choose which library in the ipod app, which is now obviously called 'Music'

How do I pick my itunes library in that rather than just playing what is stored locally on the ipad ?

In short, how do I stream Music to my ipad 2 from my imac ? Remember I have already turned on homesharing, and i can do it the other way around with the remote app fine, but not from Mac to ipad ?

Thanks, Chris

iPad 2, iOS 7.0.4

When/if home sharing is working properly, you can play your content from music > more > shared or videos > shared! depending on which type of content you wish to play.

I t appears it just isn't working right atm. In the Music app I sometimes get a shared icon in the bottom margin, and sometimes not, there seem no rhyme or reason to it. I guess it is buggy atm bc everything else works fine with it over wifi.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.

You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.

Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.

There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.
