Q: Why can't add songs from computer itunes to iphone 5 - i get exclamation dot

Title says it. I got these few cd's that I cannot put on my iPhone 5. I am using iTunes to manually manage my songs, and some I just can't put on iPhone -they show as regular black and as I try to play them they turn grey/faded and have this exclamation mark before them. I don't find any pattern and tried changing settings or set sync to automatic and etc...this stupid phone has been farther from an attempt at flying from a 5th floor. Please help for I have tried everything and I cannot put my favorite songs on this thing.

Not sure if it helps but currently the 2 cd's I cannot upload are Eric Clapton Greatest Hits and Rolling Stones Greatest Hits. So you see why I'm so upset...

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.4

Can you play tracks in iTunes on your computer? Did you rip them using iTunes? If not, it's possible they are in a format that is not compatible with the iPhone.

When having an exclamation on a listed song indicates the music data has been moved to a different origin from where it once was in the itunes library. Go to File to import search out where the CD's are located on your computer - import them to itunes and this then will allow you to sync your fav's to your iphone. Has nothing to do with issues of the iphone but where the itunes users has situated his data. (not mentioning any names only whistling) :-)

    Thanks for replying!

I've had these tracks on my iPod for ages (like 4 years) aswell as several other tracks that I just transfered so idk but I'd assume they are all correct format -they're all mp3. And to answer the question yes I can and am currently playing them on computer iTunes. As I drag them to the phone and afterwards try to play them there they turn grey with exclamation dot like I just described. Also I unplug the phone and open they music app I see the songs there but grey and won't play. Could it be the phone has a limit storage for music files? If so what is it and can you change it? Not even sure that's the case just guessing.

The exclamation dots aren't on the iTunes library, they are on the phone - I can and am currently playing the tracks on the computer.
