mail doesn't remember my password

My Mail.app doesn't seem to remember my iCloud password and prompts for it on startup. It also prompts for it on shutdown - which makes automated and unattended shutdowns less useful.

It didn't used to do this. Has a preference been corrupted? Which one?

I'd like to get normal Mail functioning back.

Hey abridge683,

I found this, which might apply to your situation:

Use of Secure Tokens for Authentication

When you access iCloud services using Apple’s built-in apps (for example, Mail, Contacts, and Calendar apps on iOS or OS X), authentication is handled using a secure token. Using secure tokens eliminates the need to store your iCloud password on devices and computers. Even if you choose to use a third-party application to access your iCloud data, your username and password are sent over an encrypted SSL connection.

I would try the following, see if that helps:

  1. Choose Preferences from the Mail menu.
  2. Click Accounts in the Preferences window.
  3. Select your iCloud account from the list of accounts.
  4. Click the Advanced tab and verify these settings:

    Authentication: "Apple Token"
