restore factory defaults
I just bought a secondhand Mac and want to wipe all content and start from new. How do I restore the factory default?

What model Mac is it? Go to the menu and select About this Mac. In the window that comes up click on the More Info button.
In the System report under Hardware will the the Model Identifier:
We need to know what model it is in order to give you directions on how to get it back to the factory settings. Things changed around 2011.
