Q: Deleting songs from iPod Shuffle.

I just bought a new iPod Shuffle and have transferred songs onto it for the first time.  I also have an iPhone and iPod Classic so not my first time round, however I can't seem to delete any of the items I've just added.  Any clues please?

If it is  set up to manage content manually (by dragging items to the shuffle to load them), not using automatic syncing, this is how to remove specific items manually.

NOTE:  If the shuffle is set up for automatic syncing, this method does not work.  Please post back.

First, if the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.

Find the shuffle in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Click the small triangle to the left of the shuffle name, to drop down its content list (indented below the shuffle).  On the content list, the categories of content currently on shuffle are listed.  For songs, click on Music.  To the right, the list of songs on the shuffle is shown.   Select the song you want to remove from the iPod, and press Delete on the keyboard.  You can do this with more than one song selected.

NOTE:  This is how your other iPod also works, except your iPod classic is probably set for automatic syncing (so you may have never manually deleted songs before).

Thank you for your help. It never occurred to me to check if I had enabled iTunes to manage content manually and that was my problem! Much appreciated!!

I tried and tried and couldn't seem to figure out, even when clicking "Manage your Music"... oops, I forgot to click APPLY at the bottom of the screen.  So y'all, be sure to click APPLY and the songlist will then edit.  (Right click for your edit options.)   NOTE:  on my laptop, it also let me simply hit the DELETE button on the keyboard, then I clicked OK (without right clicking on the songlist).
