After installing OS X 10.9 I seemed to have HD problems. I got it back up and now the it locks up and I can hear the HD making intermittent clicking noise. Never in the same spot or application, I Can Move the curser around but can't load anything. Sometimes it will go back to normal or I will have to shut it down And restart. I wondering if it is a hardware problem or software problem.

After a huge write, (such as a new OS), a failing hard drive is "pushed off the cliff" to the point of soon to be failure.
IMMEDIATELY backup all data you can to an external HD.
Also always always have a HD clone handy to replace an internal failing HD.
Make one if you can before failure, ...it might be too late however for a clone.
Still trying to figure out what's going on, I ran it in safe mode for over an hour and could not get it to lock up. So two things can you make a clone in safe mode. And does anyone think there is a software problem as to why it's locking up?
This has been an ongoing problem with the install of Mavericks on some Mac computers.
Try doing a reinstall of Mavericks over the top of the current install.
I tried and was able to reinstall mavericks, but it still same problem. I got a wd passport trying to use super dooper to clone or mirror the hd, it gets to a point and locks up. I think the same place. I'm an old IBMpc where there is a disk utility software where you can repair sectors etc. I can't get it to lock up in safe mode. I wonder if I can clone it in safe mode. Or the USB won't work in safe mode.
Try creating another user account for testing purposes and lgin to that new account.
