Different Languages Showing Up As Question Mark?

Recently, I came back to using my Macbook Pro for a project of which needed to be a typed report. And like always, there were updates I've missed, so I installed them. Afterwards, everything seemed normal for a while until I went on sites such as "Baidu" or random Japanese blogs, where characters appeared as question marks. Such as like this:

I've tried some things such as going to the Language & Text section and edit prefered languages, but it didn't really work, as it still showed up as question marks. Then I tried editing the text encoding, but it didn't work at all. Although, typing out in Chinese or Japanese showed the font, but not on websites for some reason.

Does anyone know of another way to stop the characters from turning into question marks?

Which browser are you using? Have you tested other browsers? Tested browsers on a new account to rule out system wide problem?

It could be there is no Font available to properly display the Text on that page. So it is replaced with the ? mark.

Some type of Weird font used that you don't have in your font folder.

You could contact the web admin and ask him what font was used.

Are you able to see a standard page like

http://www.people.com.cn/ ?

Since OS X has lots of Chinese fonts, it is hard to believe they have all been removed somehow.

As others have said, you should test both Firefox and Safari and while using another account to help eliminate certain possible causes.

I forgot to mention that the websites used to be fine to read and I had the fonts, until I updated, which, it took me a while to notice that something wasn't right. I apologize for it.
