Cancelling app download in the middle of downloading process by tapping “stop” sign (i.e. the square sign inside the circle showing download progress) which is shown beside the name of the app inside the App Store on iPad?

FIRST …
Is it normal to cancel app download in the middle of downloading process? Does this completely erase the downloaded part of the app? Is there any downloaded file remnant?

SECOND …
when I cancelled app download by tapping this “stop” sign, this didn’t lead to the appearance of the pop-up message that ask me to confirm my action to cancel download (as shown when you cancel app download through “Wiggle mode”),
however after doing this, the download process stopped, the square sign inside the circular download meter turned back to the “download from the cloud” sign, the icon of the app disappeared from my home screen.
My question is: was the app download process correctly cancelled? Or did I have to cancel the process from my home screen via “Wiggle mode”?

Notes:

#1 The “stop” sign that I mean is found in the 3rd image in the following link:

#2 Cancelling app download via “Wiggle mode” is explained in the following link:
