Q: 1080 movies will not play on my tv

I have just started using Apple tv and have a selection of different-sized home movies in iTunes.

All of the home movies play perfectly ok except the 1080 sized ones.

I have tried resetting Apple tv but to no avail.

The timeline bar appears at the bottom of the screen but the little tiny white cog wheel just spins round and round. Sometimes a thick white lins starts to form at the start of the timeline and moves to the right very slowly, if at all.

I have a good quality Panasonic HD tv.

    One 1080 movie is 121kbps (total 17303), another is 122kbps (total 19967kbps).

Some other "Large" movies have 123kbps and play ok.

I used the new Apple tv a few weeks ago - before the Mavericks download - and thought I'd got 1080 movies working. But I could be wrong.

I started using iMovie 10 but then reverted back to iMovie 9 if that has anything to do with it. One 1080 was finished under these circumstances but the other was over and done with before the Mavericks download. So I can't see how this has anything to do with it.

I am wondering if the Apple tv wi-fi signal sterngth is anything to do with it - I'm getting what looks like 4/5.

Also are all smart HD tvs able to cope with 1080?

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

Your datarates are far higher than they need to be (it's the toatal bitrate we are intersted in).

    Use quicktime > file > export > iPod..... > iPad 2.

10 Mbps is more than acceptable.
