Im getting a message that says "connection to server failed" and Im not getting emails. What can I do?

Check your email account. On the iPhone, getting mail is the incoming server. Go into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Click on the account in question and check the settings to ensure they match what your email provider gives you. Check the username and password in each section. While some places in the iPhone setup say they are optional, most require it. If you cannot fix it from there, then delete the account and add it back again, making sure to get all settings correct.
