Slow importing playlist

Running the latest iTunes, I tried to import a m3u playlist that contains 10,000+ tracks.

But the beach ball has been there for an hour. I hope iTunes is not dead.

Is this normal?

If not, should I reduce the size of my playlist? by how much?
