x11

Hi,

I need to use x11 on my MacBook (10.4.7). Having looked around a bit on the web, it seems like x11 is included with my OS as an optional download. Sadly, I didn't install it initially and am currently separated from my OS X DVD (I am in Switzerland and my DVD is in the UK!). Is there any way I could download the app off the internet or could I possibly borrow someone else's DVD and install off that?

Thanks!

There's no longer a download for X11 since it became part of the Mac OS X distribution.

Since you have a new MacBook, they would have to have the exact same computer as you. Your MacBook came with Mac OS X installed, so the Optional Installs package you need to run would be on "Mac OS X Install Disc 1." If there's someone else there with the exact same computer, then you could use their Install Disc 1 and the instructions in "Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4"

Otherwise, you're out of luck at present. Any Apple resellers in the area? Perhaps someone at home can FedEx your DVD to you?

Big mistake. Portable computer users should "never leave home without" their key discs, such as the disc cited above.

Good luck!

I am also having X11 problems. I cannot use Gimp or OpenOffice because my Mini-Mac's OS tells me I need X11. All the documentation that came with my Mini Mac (this week!) is out of date. It tells me I will find X11 in Utilities folder - it isn't there. It tells me to install X11 from the "bundled application" disc. I don't have such a disc, and there is no Xll install on either of the two install CDs I do have.

I downloaded X11.img off the web and attempted to install it. My Mac-Mini's OS now tells me that a later version of X11 is already installed on my system and blocks the installation. So, in summary -

I can't use X11 applications because my Mac tells me I have not installed X11. And, sure enough, X11 can't be found anywhere on my system, using a variety of disk search utilities. But when I try to install X11 my Mac stops the process, telling me a later version of X11 is already installed!

I haven't been able to find an answer to this problem on any forum of via Google.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help. I've seen someone else around with a MacBook so I'll ask for her help when I next see her! If not I guess I'm going to have to get someone to dig around in my stuff back home. I was meant to bring the disc with me but it seems like I have forgotten it in the chaos of packing...

I don't suppose there are any other options I could use if I can't get the official OS X X11?

Ok, here I go:
I also have a MacBook and I want to use the XnView which requires the X11... I went trough everything trying to install it... Ending up here I was not successful.

So, here are my questions:

1. Do you recommend that I force-install it with Pacifist?
2. Is there any option to use the XnView?
3. is there any way to find/install/use the X11 whish supossedly comes with Mac OS X 10.4.7?

Please, advise me!..
