remove Phantom .rtf file in "Places" on hard drive

I have a phantpm file .rtf which shows up under Places right below Documents on my Macintosh HD. I can open the file and trace its real location in a folder within document Documents. If I select the file and open it from "Places"; it shows its root path back to folder within Document. It is the same .rtf file. Yet I cannot move it out of "Places" to the trash. How move this file from showing up in Places?
