This error was taunting me for way to long but I beat it by adjusting host files.

1. Open Terminal

2. Type "sudo nano /private/etc/hosts"

3. Press Enter

4. Type Admin Password

5. Press Enter

User uploaded file

6. Edit to mirror image above.

7. Control+O to save

8. Press Enter to save name

9. Control+X to exit

10. Open Itunes

11. Connect Iphone

12. Update or restore whichever you like (I restored and entered Itunes in DFU mode)

Hope this helps

See my post above yours. If the line containing gs.apple.com is in your hosts file it means that your computer was used to hack or jailbreak some iDevice. So if you know your computer had be used this way in the past this should be the first thing to check.

And actually you can safely delete the line containing gs.apple.com. Putting the "#" in front of it makes it a comment, which is almost as good as deleting it, but deleting it completely will avoid future confusion.
