My iPad Air will at random restart itself! Anyone else understand or know why this is?

My iPad Air will at random restart itself! It doesn't matter what your doing or what App your using, it just stops, shows the apple logo, and returns to the lock screen. It's happened about 6 times in one week. Anyone else understand or know why this is? Is this a hardware or a software issue? I am considering exchanging it for a new one, but if this is a general software meets hardware issue or is consistent with all iPad Airs then I may just keep the one I have, contingent Apple has an update to correct the issue. I am not sure what to do. I love the iPad, but can't keep one that reboots itself at random. Anybody experiencing the same problem? Any suggestions or advice is much appreciated. Thanks!!!

iPad, iOS 7.0.4

I have the same problem. It restarts itself at least once a day, sometimes quite a bit more frequent. Like you it seems to happen randomly to me, there's not one thing that triggers it. I've never had this problem with my iPhone.

Have you tried resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.

Try again to see if the problem persists.

If that doesn't work, you can try a slightly more drastic measure. Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings. You will not lose any data, your apps will still be there but all of your settings will be reset to factory defaults.

Thank you Alfred, I have performed a hard reset via pressing the home and power button. I have even performed a "erase all data and settings" and restored the ipad. The problem continues. However, oddly enough it is less often now than prior, but continues just the same. I finally resolved I will return this iPad to the Apple Retailer from where I purchased it. I have already purchased another on their online store, just waiting for it to arrive. Fingers crossed that this issue is not a part of the new pad.

That's the question!!! And WHY is this happening. I am so incredibly frustrated over this because I have tried most everything. I finally resolved to refund it and bought another on with a larger memory capacity. The issue persists yet again. I have only had it for two days and it has happen twice. Super annoying.

Nobody has an answer or solution, especially Apple. They just tell me to trade it in for another one, but that doesn't help because it still resets itself regardless of which ipad air I have. My ipad 4 never did this.

Hello Apple!!! Do you monitor these threads which exhibits your consumers as filled with disappointment and frustration!!! If you would please help us so we don't have to be "ipadless" from returning yet another malfunctioning ipad air, we'd really appreciate your assistance and feedback!

Everyone, I apologize. I am not angry, as it may seem, only dissappointed and mostly frustrated. I bought an ipad air 32gb and was truly excited to have it, yet on the first day of its use, it randomly restarted itself. It continued to do so another 8 times in only 10 days, so I returned it and purchased a new one with more memory, 64gb. Some say that this issue is a "how much free space is available" memory issue, others say that there is insufficient working memory, or RAM on the device (it only has 1gb). Others have stated that it is a hardware meets software conflict. Apple has said nothing.

So I bought the 64gb to increase my free space memory, the RAM clearly is unchanged. The new iPad Air 64gb is....wait for it, restarting itself!!!! Yay, just like its 32gb brother.

Perhaps it is a hardware issue; however, I find it difficult (though not impossible) to believe that Apple would make such a grevious error. Yet lately there has been many errors and glitches in Apples software, mainly IOS 7, so I am hoping that this is merely another software glitch and remains fixable. I do like the iPad and wish to keep it.

As far as correcting the issue myself, I have literally performed everything that is advised: hard reset, restore via USB/iTunes & through the cloud, and most recent I decided to try just setting up the device as a whole new ipad instead of performing a restore. I have to go through the tenacious task of downloading a plethora of my apps all over again, and then reorganizing them in their perspective categories. At any rate, there seems to be no fixable solution on the users end. Apple needs to address this issue.

So Apple, please, please address this issue. Send an firmware update. If it's the hardware, let me know, and I will glumly return it to you. Thank you.

Thank you bobseufert, that is good to know, and that's too bad as well. I have contacted Apple several times and unfortunately they are not helpful. Each rep claims that they've never heard my complaint before. The solutions they've offered so far are: restore the ipad; perform a hard reset, restore the ipad via USB/iTunes, or exchange it for another one at your closest Apple Store or authorized retailer. I have done all of those suggestions. It appears there may be no resolution other than being ipadless for another year. Not moping, or dragging my knuckles in the dirt, just thinking rationally, I can't keep a flawed device. We'll see what happens.
