I used to be able to read my own collection of e-books using apple ibooks, since the last update I get a message that says "The app ibooks was not installed on the ipod because it requires a newer version of ipod software " I updated to the latest version of software ios 6.1.5 and since then have lost the ibook app?
Any suggestions on how to get it back ?

I had this problem as well. Instead of iBooks, i downloaded a different ebook app (search ebook in app store). I then was able to drag ebooks through itunes.
Once you download an ebook app:
Step 1: Go to apps under iPod
Step 2: Choose the ebook app
Step 3: Scroll to the bottom under file sharing and click on the app in the left column
Step 4: Drag your ebook files into the right column
Step 5: Open the app on your ipod and read to your hearts content!

If you previously purchases iBooks with the same account y should be able to redownload the last compatible version directly to the iPod by:

The app "Apple Ibook" was upgraded in the latest software upgrade which made it uncompatible with the ipod touch 4g
I cannot find anywhere in Itunes where I can see a "last compatible version".
I also have an iphone 4s on my account, I don't know if this would be causing any conflict.
