Q: My Touch ID option is GONE???

I recently updated my iPhone 5S 32GB to iOS version 7.0.4.  After the update, i noticed that my touch ID was not longer working. It would not even recognize my fingerprint at all. I went into Settings > General > and Passcode Lock... Passcode Lock & Touch ID option was gone... Doesn't even exist anymore. I now only have the option to use passcode lock. As if Touch ID never existed. I searched forums and couldn'g find a similar problem on a 5S. I Restored all Content and Settings on my iPhone and Restored to an iCloud Backup that was a day or two old. No big deal. Touch ID is still gone. Can someone please help me?

Sorry, but the iOS has not been mixed up between the iPhone 5 and 5s. Everyone I know who has updated their 5s still has their Touch ID working. If your theory was correct this would not be the case.

Have you tried Restoring your iPhone in iTunes?

This is very odd. I had no Touch ID & Passcode at all after updating my 5S last night.

I read the posts above, connected my 5S to iTunes, and was about to restore the backup, but decided to research it a bit more. After noticing most people saying they ended up having to get a new phone, I decided to go to the Apple store and let them sort it out, so I ejected it from my Mac.

I took one last look at the Settings menu, and there in the Settings menu was the Touch ID & Passcode! I have no idea why it appeared, but have to assume something happened during the ten minutes the phone was connected to iTunes. Not a very scientific response to the issue, but thought it was fun to share.

But clearly it's not everyone that's been fine, I find it a big coincidence that after an ios update the option is gone? Why else would this be? They obviously wouldn't forget to put it in, which is why I'm guessing that there was a problem with my update that I got an iphone 5 one? I don't know but I'm hoping they do an update to fix this or I will have to put the old chassis back on my iphone (which takes 3- 4 hours) and take it into the apple store...

Nick, it was definitely the new update that removed it from my iPhone. Up until then, mine was really great, so I'm wondering how long it will take for Apple to acknowledge the problems and fix them. I can't imagine they are satisfied to be replacing phones for free.
By the way, I'm not convinced mine is a permanent fix. I'm concerned that the next time I connect to iTunes, something else will happen. I'll probably just rely on iCloud sync until everything is straightened out.

I felt like an idiot when I noticed it was that the Touch ID & Passcode option is no longer located in Settings > General. Everywhere you go directions tell you to follow that path, but perhaps the 7.1 updated moved the Touch ID & Passcode option.

Instead, go to settings, find where general is and look 3 spots down. It's starring at you. Hopefully my 5 minutes of fury and confusion saves some other blind direction follower in the general settings area a couple minutes of time.

So - it dissappeared on my phone too.  I just got the thing, and it did a software update last night.  I went in and ENABLED General --> Restrictions.  Then, I immediately DISABLED General --> Restrictions and the thing was back and I was able to quickly setup the phone with the touch ID.

Not sure if that'll work for anyone else - but heck, it's easier than reloading the whole phone.

After repairing my iPhone the touch id part of passcode was missing.  It was frustrating the heck out of me.

*I did a Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Settnigs and Content.

I went through the iOS Setup like when a iPhone is new and it setup my finger print and the touch id part was back in settings.

**if you have your home button replaced you are out of luck.  Apparently, it was put together in the assembly process.  At this point only Apple can reset your Touch ID Home button.

you all have faulty finger print scanners, the option will stay in the phone until you flash the phone at that point it detects the reader is faulty and does not show the option any more, easy fix, fit a new fingerprint scanner then reflash 100% working

Just got my 5s and Touch ID & Passcode wasn't there for me either. Doing exactly the same as above worked for me - magically appeared in the settings menu.

Your phone is less than one year old. Why do you not have a warranty? Have you damaged it? Jailbroken it? Had it repaired by a third party?
