Q: Printing via airprint and Bonjour

I have a non-Airprint/non-WIFI DELL AIO printer on an XP desktop (USB).

I have installed Bonjour and airprint on Desktop.

In Bonjour, when trying to set up the printer it wanted to point to the driver.

i downloaded the driver and pointed Bonjour to it and it said it was the for the

wrong model. So setup did not complete.

On my iPhone, when trying to print, I can see my printer (on my XP hostname)

and can click it then I wait. it finally returns to Print screen with no printer

selected.

What am I doing wrong?

I am pretty sure I have the right driver (from DELL site).

This refered only to Apple environment. I am trying to print from Apple iPhone Via WIFI to Windows based desktop and by USB to default shared printer .

Correct, you need a valid and compatible airprint printer to do that.

YOu would need to search the app store for the make of the printer in order to use airprint.

See if this helps. http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/airprint/. I'm not aware of a way to get a non-airprint printer to work with the iPhone. Bonjour loads with iTunes, is this Airprint that you are referring to a program you obtained from somewhere? This would be news to me. I'd be interested in understanding more about it.

That's interesting. The problem is that with AirPrint compatable printers, it does not require any setup whatsoever, so there isn't any settings information in the Apple support section. Under normal circumstances, Bonjour downloads and installs with iTunes, and does not have a setup section. If you go into Programs in Control Panel, you can see the installation of Bonjour, however there is no way to modify any setup for that program. So, I'm afraid it might be hit or miss on how to make any changes to it. Identifying the actual driver for your printer might be just as difficult a task. It seems from your link that you provided, it is some way to trick the iPhone into believing you have an AirPrint compatable printer.

I did find this support document that identifies information about Windows XP and Bonjour http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2235. Don't know if it will help. Good luck.
