moving libraries

I need to move a Library of downloaded CD music from one old PC to a newer one (both are Wondolws machines). I have Home Sharing turned on both machines and both are on the same ethernet network, but neither seems to know the other is there and I don't know how to make them recognize the other machine on the network.

A "genius" at the local Apple store suggested using an external hard disk or zip drive to transfer the Library, but the iTunes Export Library command does not actually export the music files!

Any suggestions?
