Q: how to make an application appear in launchpad

One of my applications disappeared for no obvious reason from launchpad.  I can still go to applications in finder and launch it, but I'd like to get it back in launchpad.  How do I do it?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9), It disappeared from launchpad

Try doing a Dock restart using the following Terminal command:

    killall Dock

Log out/in and test. If that doesnt work, you need to look in your user Library/Applications Support/Dock for the .db. Use the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/ Library/Applications Support/Dock.  Move the .db to your desktop.

    Then try a dock reset.

    Applications/Utilities/Terminal enter the command

    killall Dock

Log out/in test. If it works okay, delete the .db from the desktop.

If the Dock is the same, return the .db to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.

Dock reset, logout/in  didn't change Launchpad.

Moving the .db files to the desktop, Dock reset, logout/in resulted in the same set of icons (the missing one was still missing) in a jumbled up order.

I moved the original db files back, did a Dock reset, and am back where I started, still missing the second Photoshop icon.

Hi there. just had the same problem with photoshopCC not appearing in launchpad. thats how I saw your question. You may have sorted it now but if not all you do is uninstall cs6 version and the cc version will take its place in launchpad

I'm sure that would work.  However, Launchpad shows Bridge cs6 _and_ Bridge cc, while it only shows PS cc.  Not really sure why, but I already have both  Bridge and PS cc programs showing.  I was trying to run the PS versions alternately to understand their differences.  I simply started PS cs6 from the Applications directory.

In any case, I don't think it's worth spending more time on Launchpad, and I'm not yet ready to uninstall cs6.

    Thanks anyway!

After much searching and disappointment, I found the glorious solution:

Here is the terminal command to copy: rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db; killall Dock
