Q: Deleting foreign fonts safe? (e.g /Library/Fonts/Hannotate.ttc -87MB)
I am creating some extra Mavericks install images, and went through looking for large files I might be able to delete.
In
/Library/Fonts
I find, among others: (with size in KB)
8024 Yu Gothic Medium.otf
8400 ヒラギノ明朝 Pro W6.otf
8448 ヒラギノ明朝 Pro W3.otf
8788 Xingkai.ttc
8972 华文黑体.ttf
9712 华文细黑.ttf
10612 华文仿宋.ttf
10868 WeibeiTC-Bold.otf
11588 WawaSC-Regular.otf
11624 WawaTC-Regular.otf
12872 Hiragino Sans GB W3.otf
12932 Hiragino Sans GB W6.otf
14720 Yuanti.ttc
15148 Arial Unicode.ttf
23496 WeibeiSC-Bold.otf
42184 Lantinghei.ttc
65468 Songti.ttc
69056 Kaiti.ttc
70216 Hanzipen.ttc
85112 Hannotate.ttc
Non-Asian speakers can probably do without all of these, save Arial Unicode (note:all non-Unicode variants of Arial are < 1/10 as big; possibly this isn't important either).
Apple helpfully notes:, "Important /System/Library/Fonts should never be disabled, because these items are used by OS X, and other integral applications." However, that's not where these are.
I wonder what if anything I'm breaking by eliminating these. So far so good.
MacBook, MBP, iBook G4 and many other models. (Xserve, MP), Mac OS X (10.6.4)
