MacBook Pro storage full even though all data stored externally!

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro with retina display less than two week ago. I have never saved anything to the MacBook as all data is stored on an external drive, however, according to the MacBook I only have 6GB of storage remaining. How is that even possible?

Is anyone able to help with this as it appears that I am losing space at about 10GB per day.

I Tried running OmniDiskSweeper again and still give no results to explain the large use of Other in storage.

As you can see I apparently only have 6.49 GB available OmniDiskSweeper says I am only using 55GB So what is making up the items in the Other storage section?

Is this a Bug! I have no files in Downloads, folder my Trash is empty including in iPhoto.

Do you have Time Machine turned on? If you do turn it off and restart your Mac.

If after a period time the space doesn't free up I suggest you start fresh with a clean install of OS X and your programs.

Also since you bought this system less than 14 days ago Apple has a 14 day no questions asked return policy for a full refund. Take it back and get another.

Look at this discussion and pay particular attention to the post from Linc Davis. Run OmniDiskSweeper at root per his suggestion and see if that develops any further information.

Also understand that the Mac sizes are in decimal and OmniDiskSweeper reports in binary. That will account for about a 7% difference.

Ciao.

Well i can only assume that this is bug that needs Apple's attention as there appears to be no explanation for it.

The explanation has not yet been found, doesn't mean that there isn't one, if this was a bug there would be millions of people posting about it.

Do you have Time Machine on, and if so did you try LowLusters suggestion?

Other, by the way is Email, Calendars, Contacts, OSX and its System libraries, Documents and Data files, pretty much anything that is not in one of the named categories. And don't forget that OSX creates temp files, swap files and sleepimages, they also take up space.

OK, So I have now tried all suggestions most of which I had already done before posting.

I had already disabled Time Machine last week as I know that that alone can cause problems.

I done a little test this evening to see if I could increase avialble storage. I deleted 10GB of movies and 20GB of pictures, the results showed that instead of the storage space being taken up in the listed catergories it has increased the size of the section called other yet there is nothing in my trash I even restarted the computer no less than 5 times.

I also tried OnyX as well as all the other suggestions again and all it has done is made it worse. I was hoping to sort this in the support forums as everyone is always very helpful, although I this occassions I think it is something faulty.

I am open to any other suggestions not listed above, before I go into the Apple store.
